Bamboo Prayers

6 female dancers
Music: Henry Wolff & Nancy Henning
Costume: Karen Young

In Asian culture, bamboo represents mankind's nobility and virtue. It symbolizes justice, strength and humility. This dance uses rattan, the flexible bamboo for props. The choreographer uses it to symbolize the spirit of women. It reflects our strength and resilience. The dance is the second part of the larger work titled Bamboo and was originally commissioned by the Joyce Theater Foundation's Altogether Different Fund.
