Korean audience enthusiastically received the company’s performance and we truly appreciated the generosity of our host, the ChangMu Institute.   We performed two dances in the festival:  Incense, inspired by the sculpture titled Nine Muses at the Ground for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey to the ethereal voice of Joan La Barbara and Raindrops, inspired by Nai-Ni’s home city, Keelong in Taiwan.

Text Box: During our visit, we received generous banquet style meals, skillful and supportive translators and experienced technical support personnel. We’d also like to thank the support from Arts International.  Without their funding support, we would not be able to perform at this important international dance event. 
Text Box: This summer, the Nai-Ni Chen company was invited by the legendary Korean dancer/choreographer Kim MaeJa to the ChangMu International Art Festival (ChangMu means Creative Dance).  The 10 day long festival featured companies from Japan, France, USA and Korea.  
On June 14th, after 14 hours of flight, the company (six dancers, Nai-Ni and Andy) arrived in Seoul,  Korea, and was greeted by the warm smiles of Ms. Hae Ree Choi and  our translator Ji.  Upon arriving at the hotel, Ms. Choi introduced us to the festival manager, Mr. Dong-Hong Shin.  W went to work almost right away while the dancers went for a night rest at the Korea Hotel. We performed four weekend concerts at the school’s wonderful Gathering Space to over 300 community members and Taught  repertory classes at the school’s ever so popular summer institute for pre-college dance students.  The Harlem School of the Arts college-prep dance program is a merit based curriculum that encourage inspired students to pursue dance as a career.  Our company is very proud to Text Box: For the past seven years, the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company has been receiving generous rehearsal space support from the Harlem School of the Arts.  Because of this assistance, the company is able to grow and create new works in a stable environment.  In turn, we provide  services to the Harlem community through lecture demonstrations, performances and choreography at the School..  This year, the Company received generous support from the Text Box: be part of that inspiration for the many students who are now dancing in performing arts academies, conservatories and universities across the United States.
